(PIT) Pile Integrity Testing

Pile Integrity Tester ASTM D5882-07

Pile Integrity Tester is a cost effective, fast and easy to use instrument for evaluating continuity and integrity of concrete pile foundations.d

A pile integrity test (also known as low strain dynamic test, sonic echo test, and low strain integrity test) is a non-destructive test method for assessing the condition of concrete piles or shafts. It is cost effective and not very time consuming.d

The test measures:d

Pile length

depth to anomalies

pile head stiffness

.pile shaft mobility – which is dependent on pile section and concrete properties

Testing with Pile Integrity Tester Model … requires minimal of preparation. The PIT Model … has a sensitive MEMS accelerometer receiver module which is connected to the pile via a couplant. A hand held plastic hammer is then hit on top of the pile to generate a low strain impact. This impact propagates along the pile, reaches the pile end and reflects back to the receiver. A data acquisition, recording, displaying and analyzing workstation is used to view the reflected back waveforms. Changes in cross sectional area – such as a reduction in diameter – or material – such as a void in concrete – produce wave reflections which are easily captured and displayed on PIT Model… screen.d

The pile integrity test is a very simple and effective test method. It can be trained in 2 hours and a hundred of tests can be performed during a working day. The PIT helps the specialists to easily analyze and evaluate pile continuity and condition. The test results can be used to find defects corresponding to cracks, reductions in section and zones of poor quality concrete.d
